Belton Lake Westcliff Park: 3/11-14/11

For this trip to Belton Lake, we camped on the West side of the lake, at another fine Corps of Engineers facility.

Westcliff park is much more open than Live Oak Ridge park with pull-through spaces along the lake and back-in spaces away from the lake.  This park has a shoreline with a gentle slope and is ideal for campers with boats who can tie their boat along the shore near their campsite. (Map of Park).

Pull-Thru's Along the Shore

With doors and awnings on the passenger side, as is the case with most trailers, the shore-line campgrounds offer the best afternoon orientation as you have afternoon shade from the sun and can face the water from your patio and arbor units.

We camped at site 26, a back-in site above the shoreline units, which places your awning side facing directly into the afternoon sun.  This site, however, has some nice trees around it which should provide shade once the leaves come out in the Spring.  It's also very near the restrooms.

Westcliff seems to cater more to fishermen and to younger families.  There is plenty of open space to fly kites, play frisbee, softball, kickball, etc.  This park also has a swimming beach as well.  There is also a road from the campsite to the boat ramp which makes a nice 1.5 mile or so walking route.

By the time we made that loop a couple of times a day, Henri was ready to hit his bed and curl up with 'monkey', his current favorite chew toy.

This is a very well maintained park, again with ample space between campsites and paved pull through or back-in sites which are generally level.  Only one bathroom/shower building in the main park, but it was nice enough and well maintained.

Yes, we made the obligatory trip to Wal Mart again this trip.  This time, we added an outdoor carpet to go under the awning.  BB also found a "deal' on western movies on DVD (2 for $10) and a cool lightweight folding camp table.  So we got to watch some good old western movies as well.

A nice park, all in all.  We'll be back and will likely try to reserve a spot along the shoreline (Sites 1 through 12) seem to be the best to us.  Although we like Oak Ridge Park for the aesthetics, Westcliff Park has much better walking opportunities.  BB and I rate it a 3.

Sunset at Westcliff (I'm NOT getting up for Sunrise!)

Although not as many trees as Henri might like, the roadways are lined with guard rail posts on both sides, so Henri had more than enough opportunities!

Till next time!

  1. It looks like a great park and a great place to fish. Thanks for the updates on your RV experiences. I can't wait for this summer to do some weekend camping.
